How to create a great profile for your dating site

What type of photo should I take? What are stupid and cool pseudonyms? What should I include in my personal description? And what not?

Countless millions of contact adverts circulate on the internet. Of course, this is an advantage to all singles on the hunt. More choice, more chances. There is a disadvantage, though. How do you manage to make yourself stand out from the crowd?

In our guide you will find a few tips on how to elevate your profile.

1. Rule: Marketing is everything!

That sounds rather logical, don’t you think? It’s not without reason that companies spend high amounts on advertising. See yourself as a product that you want to bring to a man or a woman. Imagine that your advert is appearing in a glossy magazine. However, you are not the only one who is advertising for that one special person.

Most singles would now think:

It doesn’t matter what is in my profile. I’ll go searching myself!

You can certainly do that. But what will these users do first? That’s right, take a look at your profile. Instead, have a go at playing around a little with the free text areas and pictures in your profile.

You can also try out several profiles in parallel, to see which strategy gains more attention.

2. Rule: Good photos and title

These are the first things that immediately attract the attention of other users and, therefore, are important to you. Besides, some of us were once singles who wanted to try our luck online-dating and faced similar problems. Nevertheless, we soon became aware of which factors are decisive for success.

Your Profile Picture:

This brings us back to the glossy magazine. Imagine that you had to choose a person for your company based on their profile. Would you take the one who uploads an accidental picture of a party night or the one who looks ahead at you confidently? That’s exactly how it works with online-dating! Be natural. For a good picture, you do not have to play-act. However, as this topic is very close to our hearts, we have written an extensive advisory article.

Your profile slogan

Granted. It is not easy to find a good slogan. Obviously, we are looking for a person who is there for us in a certain way. However, we should not advertise too openly, as this can make us seem like a helpless and lonely person. Accordingly, you should avoid the following negative wording and phrasing:

  • “I don’t actually believe in online-dating, but a friend insisted on signing me up.”
  • “Everything is so boring, you could be the change I’ve been longing for.”
  • “I’m now looking for a loving, considerate man, because my last boyfriend was a total a******.”

Just as unappealing are exaggerations. If you emphasise your physique, technical skills or other qualities too much, this could possibly lead to an embarrassing first date.

Keep it short, concise and honest. If your messages only seem to be arriving in dribs and drabs, then you can try out new options.

3. Rule: Who are you?

Now is the time for you to let off steam in the text part of your profile. Who or what are you really looking for? What makes you stand out? Only when you formulate this clearly in your profile, will other users have the chance to answer.

Proceed as follows:

  • Draw up a list with qualities that you value.
  • Try to create a kind of advertising campaign.
  • Then formulate it indirectly.

The decisive factor is the indirect formulation.

Bad, because it is direct:

I enjoy being in nature, fond of children and technically gifted. I’m looking for a woman of similar qualities.

Better, because it is indirect:

Yesterday, I built a tree house with my two nephews. Then I thought to myself: Where is the woman with whom I can build a tree house for our children?

You understand what we mean, don’t you?

Good luck with your profile – and remember:

  • No master has fallen from the sky yet.
  • Whoever wants to f***, must be friendly
  • Trying makes you clever.
